Terracotta

Clay plant pots for indoors and outdoors

Vincent Sheppard terracotta plant pots are traditionally fired and crafted by hand. Each piece exudes an earthy allure and possesses its own distinct character, enhanced by slight variations in colour and texture that result from meticulous artisanal techniques.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these pots are designed for enduring performance in outdoor environments. Their remarkable resilience is evident through their UV and weather resistance, ensuring they maintain their charm even when exposed to the elements. Therefore, we recommend a proper handling and storage to avoid any risk of winter damage.

Care instructions

  • To ensure proper drainage, use expanded clay or gravel at the bottom of the pots

and place the Saya pots on pot feet (avoid saucers during winter). Elevating the

pots with pot feet prevents them from sitting directly on the ground.

  • Select the appropriate pot size for your plant, and remember to upgrade the pot

when necessary to ensure that root growth doesn’t damage it.

Our clay pots are perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, bringing natural elegance to any setting. Add a touch of nature to your living space or terrace and create your personal green sanctuary.

Artisanal craftsmanship

To ensure durability and frost resistance, our handcrafted pottery is fired at temperatures ranging from 850 to 1000 degrees Celsius. This handmade process, along with traditional firing methods, can result in natural variations in colour (ranging from light to dark or unique shades), size, and minor crackling.

Due to the artisanal nature of our work, sizes may vary by approximately 5%, influenced by the clay’s age and its position in the kiln. These distinctive characteristics enhance the unique beauty of each piece and are considered natural attributes.

Planting instructions

  1. Cover the hole and bottom of the pot with a filter fleece. This will prevent soil and other materials from clogging the drainage hole.

  2. Fill the container with hydroton or expanded clay pellets to a height of 2 to 5 cm.

  3. Apply an additional layer of filter fleece over the hydroton.

  4. Add soil to the planter.

  5. Place the planter on pot feet to facilitate easy water drainage.

Storing instructions during wintertime

  • Important to drain off any excess water in pots.

  • Use pot feet to raise the planter from the ground.

  • Remove plants and soil from the pot to avoid cracking.

  • Cover the pot with plastic sheeting to avoid contact with water.

  • Put something in between the pots when stacking them.
